A flag is read from thirty metres away: the design changes

Custom flags are seen from a distance, in motion and often against the light. That changes the rules: the logo needs to take up a good part of the fabric, the contrast with the background needs to be high, and long text is unnecessary. On a 3 m feather flag, the area that can really be read from the street is the top third: that’s where the brand goes, not the slogan. We prepare the artwork with that in mind, and you see it in the mock-up before flag printing.

The other factor is where it will be used. An outdoor pole flag stands up to wind and sun if it’s made from 110-115 g/m² marine polyester, with a stitched edge and reinforced sleeve. An indoor banner for a conference can be made in 200-220 g/m² blockout fabric, so the double-sided print doesn’t show through. In an event image, flags are the item people see from outside; the rest of the event merchandise is seen up close.

For feather flags, the base (cross base or water base) may be separate: tell us where it will be placed.

What can be customised

• The full flag in full colour: background, logo, pattern or photograph, with no extra cost by number of colours, because sublimation prints in full colour.
• Single or double-sided: on a single-sided flag the ink passes through the fabric and the reverse reads in mirror, with slightly duller colour; on a true double-sided flag, a blockout layer is stitched in the middle and each side has its own artwork.
• The finish and fittings: hem, sleeve, tape with clips, metal rings, cord or base, depending on whether you hang it, raise it or place it on a table.
• The feather flag base, cross base or water base, depending on the ground where it will be placed.

What we need from you for the quote

Flags are not in the online catalogue: they are made to order. With this information, we’ll send you the quote and mock-up within 24 working hours.

• Format and size: hand flag, table flag, pole flag, feather flag or banner, and the size. If you already have poles, tell us their height and how the flag is fixed.
• Indoor or outdoor: marine polyester for outdoors, blockout for indoor double-sided use.
• Single or double-sided, and whether each side has different artwork.
• Quantity: how many pieces you need and in which sizes; for large format there is no catalogue minimum quantity and pricing is done piece by piece.
• Logo: in vector format (SVG, AI or PDF); if you only have it in PNG or JPG, we’ll review it.
• Event date and delivery address: the office, the event venue or whoever is building the stand, to one address or several, anywhere in the EU.

How it works

   Quote and mock-up

   Within 24 working hours, you receive the quote and a mock-up of the flag with your logo, adapted to the format and viewing distance. The mock-up is free and you can ask for adjustments.

   Approval and payment

   You approve the mock-up and pay. Nothing goes into production before that.

   Production

   We sublimate the polyester and sew the chosen finish. The usual lead time is two to three weeks from approval; feather flags and banners with structure usually need a bit longer, so tell us the event date from the start.

   Delivery

   Tracked delivery to one address or several, in any EU country: the office, the event venue or whoever is building the stand.

Where they work and what they pair with

The most common uses are the head office façade or garden, with two or three pole flags renewed each season; the exhibition stand, where a 3 m feather flag marks the meeting point above people’s heads; and races, open days or openings, where hand flags are handed out by the hundreds. Outdoors, a flag is a consumable: with constant wind and sun, the colour and edge wear over time, so expect to replace it every one or two seasons and take it down in storms.

On an outdoor stand, the feather flag usually goes in front of a custom gazebo with the same artwork; indoors, next to a custom roll-up banner carrying the message. The image holds together when the team is dressed consistently, with custom polo shirts or T-shirts, and the visitor takes away something with the same branding.
